GENETIC VARIANT, SUSPECTED DELETERIOUS

This result means that the test detected a mutation in the APC or MYH gene that is presumed, but not conclusively proven, to increase cancer risk. Suspected deleterious results are viewed as a positive result, because the mutation is generally considered to be responsible for hereditary colorectal polyposis and cancer risk. A patient with a suspected deleterious test result should be managed in the same manner as a patient with a positive for a deleterious mutation result. COLARIS AP® Positive for a Deleterious Mutation or Suspected Deleterious

Each suspected deleterious test result includes a description of why the mutation is classified as such. A suspected deleterious result may be reclassified as definitive deleterious by Myriad in the future. If this occurs, Myriad will issue an amended report to the healthcare provider who ordered the test.

As with the positive for a deleterious mutation result, other family members can be tested for the specific suspected deleterious familial mutation(s). Those family members testing positive for the known mutation(s) may be managed more aggressively.
