GENETIC VARIANT, SUSPECTED DELETERIOUS
 This result means that the test detected a change in the p16 gene that is presumed, but not conclusively proven, to increase cancer risk. Suspected deleterious results are viewed clinically as a positive for a deleterious mutation result, because the mutation is generally considered to be responsible for hereditary cancer risk. A patient with a suspected deleterious test result should be managed in the same manner as a patient with a positive for a deleterious mutation result. MELARIS® Positive for a Deleterious Mutation or Suspected Deleterious
Each suspected deleterious test result includes a description of why the mutation is classified as such. A suspected deleterious result may be reclassified as a definitive deleterious by Myriad in the future. If this occurs, Myriad will issue an amended report to the healthcare provider who ordered the test.
As with the positive for a deleterious mutation result, other family members can be tested for the specific suspected deleterious familial mutation. First-degree relatives are at 50% risk to carry the same mutation. Those family members testing positive for the known mutation may be managed more aggressively.
